Course Outline....The BTEC Jamie Oliver Home Cooking Skills Level 2 course has been developed in partnership with Jamie Oliver Ltd and has been inspired by his food initiatives and campaigns. Learners will develop their cooking skills by exploring recipes for nutritious meals. Each recipe is underpinned with knowledge about planning and sourcing food, hygiene and food safety. How to cook different elements of a meal to serve them at the same time are considered. The importance of presenting food well and how this contributes to its enjoyment is reflected on in this level 2 course. Ways to economise when shopping for ingredients and cooking meals at home are significant aspects of this level 2 course. Learners will demonstrate their skills by selecting recipes for a nutritious two-course meal and following the recipes to prepare, cook and present the meal. This course aims to give learners the skills and confidence to enjoy cooking meals at home, to apply skills to new recipes to continue cooking for themselves and their families and to inspire others. |
Assessment....Level 2 is assessed in four areas
Be able to plan a nutritious, home-cooked meal using basic ingredients Be able to prepare, cook and present a nutritious home-cooked meal using basic ingredients Understand how to cook economically at home Be able to pass on information about cooking meals at home from scratch To successfully complete BTEC level 2 students must evidence their skills and learning though photographic evidence, completed worksheets, planning and evaluation of skills learned. Exams: This is a BTEC level 2 course and is only assessed on coursework. There are no examinations. Key Dates: May - Coursework is submitted Top Tips: Cook and experiment with fresh ingredients as much as you can. Offer to cook dinner for your family or show a relative how to make something new from scratch. Parents can help by: Encouraging students cook products made in the classroom and allow then to show their learned skills. |
